When most people get married - they do so with every intention to honor their wedding vows. They don’t “plan” to have an affair - yet why is it that so many couples fall into the bed of unfaithfulness? When this happens - most often it is because one or both spouses - did not protect their marriage. If you want a happy, joyful marriage - there are three important rules that are absolutely necessary! NUMBER ONE: God must be the head of your home! Without His constant strength, power, guidance, wisdom and love - this union is doomed for disaster! NUMBER TWO: Marriage is meant for TWO - the moment you form an intimate relationship with someone else - you allow a crack in the door for the devil to infiltrate your marriage. Whether it is an emotional affair or a physical one - it will destroy your holy union before God. It can happen innocently without you even realizing. It usually begins with a casual acquaintance such as a co-worker, someone you met at a social event, a church member or even a family friend. You strike up a friendly conversation. It could be of a spiritual nature or even a Bible study. You enjoy the time together and before long you begin sharing details of your life - just everyday stuff. Seems harmless - a few emails, texts, or phone calls . . . but before you know it - feelings develop and the barrier is crossed. First a so called harmless hug, a kiss and and then secret rendezvous. The affair continues until the guilt is too much to bear and your shame is revealed. Not only will your spouse be hurt in the worst possible way - but you may have permanently destroyed your marriage. You might say, “Oh, that would never happen to me,” but don’t be so sure! Even the mighty King David fell down that slippery slope! NUMBER THREE: Open Communication - be honest, kind, respectful and resolve conflicts! You need to pay attention to rules 1- 3 and protect your marriage . . . not because you ‘think’ you will mess up - but because you are determined not to!
