Often after the holidays, when everyone is gone, the decorations put away, and the house is quiet, you may start to feel a bit sad that it’s all over, and oftentimes, depression can settle in. Then comes the worry wagon full of credit card bills from gifts purchased that you really couldn’t afford. Top it all off with a good portion of anxiety and guilt added to that pile and the stress levels are off the charts! Instead of settling back into the normal routine, take time to evaluate your spiritual life. Ask yourself a few questions, such as, How is my relationship with God? Am I a surrendered follower of Christ or am I just going through the motions of being a Christian? How much time am I spending each day with God in private devotions? Do I trust God with my problems? Instead of being discouraged, use this time to jump start your prayer life and relationship with God. Listen, and you'll hear God's voice in the midst of your troubles. He will give you the courage and strength to face whatever life throws at you. And through it all, He will sustain you with His sweet peace! Claim God's promise in Isaiah 43:2: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you!" Don’t spend another minute missing the holidays! Instead spend time with God and enjoy today.
